My Story

From a curious student to transforming STEM education across Ghana - here's the journey that shaped my mission.

The Spark of Curiosity

Growing up in Ghana, I was that kid who took apart every electronic device I could get my hands on - much to my parents' dismay. While other children played with toys, I was fascinated by how things worked, constantly asking "why" and "how." This insatiable curiosity led me to discover the world of robotics and technology, but I quickly realized something troubling.

The resources and opportunities I craved were scarce. Quality STEM education was a luxury, not a right. I watched brilliant minds around me - especially young girls - lose interest in science and technology simply because they didn't have access to engaging, hands-on learning experiences. This wasn't just unfair; it was a tragedy for our nation's future.

A Vision Takes Shape

During my computer science studies at West End University College from 2019 to 2024, I couldn't shake the image of those untapped minds. I started tutoring fellow students, organizing small robotics workshops, and dreaming of something bigger. The "aha" moment came when I realized that Ghana's future depended not just on consuming technology, but on creating it.

In 2018, while still a student, I took a leap of faith and founded InovTech STEM Center. Armed with nothing but passion, a borrowed laptop, and an unwavering belief that every child deserves to experience the magic of STEM, I started conducting workshops in schools across Accra. The response was electric - students who had never seen a robot suddenly became inventors, dreamers, and problem-solvers.

Overcoming the Impossible

The early days were tough. Convincing schools to embrace new teaching methods, securing funding for equipment, and changing mindsets about what African students could achieve - it felt like moving mountains. I remember nights spent crafting proposals, days traveling to remote schools with a backpack full of basic robotics kits, and countless rejections from potential partners who didn't share the vision.

But then came the breakthrough moments: a 12-year-old girl from a rural school building her first robot and declaring she wanted to become an engineer; teachers who had never touched a computer suddenly integrating technology into their lessons; students creating solutions to local problems using the skills they'd learned. These moments fueled my determination to scale our impact.

Recognition and Acceleration

The turning point came in 2022 when CNN recognized me as an African Voices Changemaker. Suddenly, the world was watching, and with that attention came opportunities I had only dreamed of. Partnerships with international organizations, invitations to speak at global conferences, and most importantly, the resources to expand our reach exponentially.

But recognition brought responsibility. I realized that our work wasn't just about teaching robotics - we were shaping the next generation of African innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders. This led to the creation of specialized programs like STEM4Her, focusing on empowering girls in STEM, and the development of innovative solutions like STEMSET, which transforms plastic waste into learning materials.

Transforming Lives, One Student at a Time

Today, when I look at the numbers - over 17,000 students impacted, 2,500 teachers trained, 150+ schools reached - I don't just see statistics. I see faces. I see the girl who built her first robot and now studies engineering at university. I see the teacher who had never touched a computer suddenly integrating technology into their lessons; students creating solutions to local problems using the skills they'd learned.

Each story reminds me why this work matters. We're not just teaching STEM; we're breaking cycles of poverty, challenging gender stereotypes, and proving that with the right opportunities, African youth can compete and lead on the global stage. The 45% female participation in our programs isn't just a number - it represents thousands of girls who now see themselves as future scientists, engineers, and innovators.

The Journey Continues

As I continue my studies at the University of Pennsylvania and expand our programs, I'm more convinced than ever that education is the most powerful tool for transformation. My vision extends beyond Ghana - I see a future where every African child has access to world-class STEM education, where our continent becomes a hub of technological innovation, and where the next breakthrough in AI, robotics, or sustainable technology comes from a young mind we've inspired.

This is more than a career; it's a calling. Every partnership we forge, every program we launch, every student we inspire brings us closer to that future. The curious kid who took apart electronics has become someone who builds dreams, and I'm just getting started. The best part? I'm not doing this alone - I'm part of a growing movement of African changemakers who refuse to accept limitations and are determined to write a new story for our continent.
